Performance Characteristics of Oil-Immersed Vertical Current Transformers

1. Insulation and Weather‑Resistance Performance: Utilizes oil‑paper composite insulation, offering high dielectric strength and low partial discharge, suitable for 35 kV to 220 kV high‑voltage applications. The fully sealed structure, combined with an expander to isolate air and moisture, ensures excellent moisture resistance and protection against oil degradation, enabling stable long‑term outdoor operation. The high‑strength porcelain bushing provides external insulation that resists pollution flashover, withstands ultraviolet radiation, and adapts to extreme temperatures as well as rain, snow, wind, and sand.
2. Electrical Performance: High turns-ratio accuracy, low metering winding error, and excellent linearity, meeting the requirements for electrical energy measurement. The protection winding exhibits superior saturation characteristics, enabling accurate transformation of fault currents under short-circuit conditions and ensuring compatibility with relay protection schemes. It features low excitation current, strong load‑carrying capability, and a wide secondary‑load range. Operating temperature rise is low, with insulating oil circulation providing effective heat dissipation, and it demonstrates good overload capacity.
3. Structure and Mechanical Performance: The upright configuration features a low center of gravity, excellent seismic resistance, stable installation, and convenient transportation and lifting. The unit exhibits superior overall rigidity, effectively resisting mechanical vibrations and short-circuit electromagnetic forces. Its modular design provides a clear layout, facilitating maintenance, oil changes, and testing operations.

Key Features

Vertical type: The body stands upright, with a low center of gravity and excellent stability, making it suitable for outdoor high-voltage applications (35–220 kV).
Capacitive insulation: commonly used on the high-voltage side, featuring a uniform electric field and a large insulation margin.
Secondary open-circuit operation is strictly prohibited: opening the circuit can generate several kilovolts of high voltage, leading to insulation breakdown and posing a serious safety hazard.

Structure of Oil-Immersed Vertical Current Transformer

1. Top: Expander + Oil Conservator Expander: metal, corrugated type; compensates for the thermal expansion and contraction of insulating oil and isolates it from air to prevent moisture ingress. Oil conservator (large-ratio structure): stores oil and dissipates heat; equipped with primary terminal blocks/conductive busbars on the side.	2. Middle section: porcelain bushing (external insulation) + core body (internal core) Porcelain sleeve: high-strength electrical porcelain, serving as the primary external insulation, supporting the upper section and sealing the internal cavity. Body (Core) Primary winding: U-shaped.	3. Bottom: Fuel tank + secondary junction box Fuel tank: a sealed container that holds insulating oil, secures the core, and provides grounding. Secondary junction box: side-mounted lead-out, including secondary terminals.	4. Insulating Oil (Filling) Functions: main insulation, heat dissipation, arc suppression, and moisture protection. Requirements: high dielectric strength, low dielectric loss, and oxidation resistance.
