Hebei Fengning Pumped-Storage Power Station – GIS Voltage Transformers and Surge Arresters

Project Overview:
The Fengning Pumped-Storage Hydropower Station is located in Fengning Manchu Autonomous County, Chengde City, Hebei Province, approximately 180 kilometers from Beijing. With a total installed capacity of 3.6 million kilowatts, it is the world’s largest pumped-storage hydropower station. The plant stores and releases energy by utilizing two reservoirs—one upstream and one downstream—with storage capacities of 58 million and 60.7 million cubic meters, respectively. Together with other pumped-storage stations such as the Shisanling Plant, it helps address the insufficient peak‑regulation capability of the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei power grid and the challenges of accommodating wind‑power fluctuations. It also performs grid frequency and phase regulation, provides emergency reserve capacity, and supplies green electricity to support the Beijing Winter Olympics. Our company supplies the core equipment for this power station’s 500 kV overhead and underground GIS systems, including 73 units of 500 kV GIS voltage transformers—model JDQXF‑500. These products have been specially optimized for extreme operating conditions and feature a fully shielded design that ensures optimal internal electric field distribution and significantly enhances operational stability. Additionally, we provide 31 units of 500 kV GIS surge arresters—model Y20WF‑420/1046. All surge arresters at this site utilize imported high‑gradient resistor discs, delivering outstanding overvoltage suppression and precise protection thresholds. Independent sealed gas compartments, combined with advanced sealing technology, ensure superior weather resistance. Following multiple rounds of electric field simulation and optimization, the internal electric field distribution is well balanced, with ample insulation margins; the technical performance exceeds industry standards, thereby safeguarding grid reliability.
