With the comprehensive advancement of smart grids in China, large-scale DC grids, solar power, wind power, and other renewable energy sources are continuously being integrated into the grid, resulting in substantial harmonic distortion. The presence of harmonics not only degrades the grid’s power transmission capacity but also poses risks to the reliable operation of electrical equipment.
Conducting research on key technologies such as high-precision measurement and monitoring of power‑grid harmonics to accurately determine the actual harmonic levels in the grid is an issue that urgently requires resolution.
Recently, Shandong Taikai Instrument Transformer Co., Ltd. successfully developed a 220 kV capacitive voltage transformer with harmonic measurement capabilities and obtained a product type‑test report from the Electrical Equipment Quality Inspection and Testing Center of the power industry, marking that our company now possesses the capability to manufacture and supply such products.

This product has successfully passed type‑test certification on the first attempt, thanks to thorough design calculations and stringent process‑control measures. Its performance metrics not only meet but exceed national and industry standards; in particular, under high‑frequency harmonics ranging from 100 Hz to 2500 Hz, the measured harmonic accuracy exhibits a ratio error of ≤3% and a phase error of ≤150′, surpassing the industry‑standard requirements of ≤5% for ratio error and ≤300′ for phase error. Additionally, the harmonic measurement terminals deliver a load capacity of 2.5 VA, exceeding the industry‑required threshold of 1.2 VA, thereby positioning the product at an industry‑leading performance level.

Capacitive voltage transformers equipped with harmonic‑measurement capabilities not only perform the conventional functions of traditional capacitive voltage transformers—such as voltage measurement and relay protection—but also enable real-time monitoring and quantification of harmonics in high‑voltage and extra‑high‑voltage power grids, thereby providing an accurate assessment of the grid’s true harmonic levels. The development and application of this project align with the State Grid Corporation’s strategic vision and lay a solid foundation for subsequent mass production and market deployment. The successful R&D of such forward‑looking, innovative products underscores the technical expertise of the Taikai Transformer R&D team and establishes a robust technological platform for the continued development of harmonic‑measuring transformers. Their outstanding performance enhances the stability and safety of grid operations while providing strong support for the efficient management of future smart grids, thereby highlighting Taikai Transformer’s innovative strength and leading position in the power‑equipment sector.
